Harman’s new JBL Synthesis SSW-4 in-wall subwoofer is designed to complement the JBL Synthesis range of in-wall loudspeakers and provide the highest levels of sonic performance for custom home theater applications.
The SSW-4 is a self-contained subwoofer with integrated back-box that allows for easier retrofit installations, while optimized for the highest level of performance and reliability and includes a custom installer-focused feature set.
The subwoofer is driven by dual 8-inch (200mm) front-firing drivers with sealed acoustic tuning. An integrated MDF back-box enclosure with ABS front baffle provides a flange and integrated magnets to support a zero-bezel magnetically-attached grille.
Gold-plated push terminals provide for speaker cable connection and a specially designed mounting system provides acoustic isolation from wall framing. A compact footprint allows for retrofit installations without the need for installing a large enclosure behind the drywall.
“The SSW-4 is optimized for deep, powerful bass response and complements our full range of JBL Synthesis in-wall loudspeakers,” said Jim Garrett, senior director, product strategy and planning, Harman. “It is an excellent solution for the custom installer who is seeking a high-performance, in-wall subwoofer that easily retrofits into a standard 2×4 stud frame construction projects.”
While the subwoofer is designed to blend into any environment and décor, it can also be installed in a traditional application behind acoustic fabric or woven/perforated video screens without installing the grilles. The JBL Synthesis SSW-4 will be available in Spring 2018 for $1,000/each MSRP.
