At CEDIA Expo 2024 booth #2928, Josh.ai is launching AI OS, the industry’s first AI-powered control platform, while providing attendees with a first look at its Josh Touchscreen and Josh Edge hardware products.
AI OS utilizes the latest advancements in AI to auto-configure systems, enhance user interactions, and make the smart home truly intelligent. AI-Powered Operating System
Since its founding in 2015, Josh.ai been providing the custom electronics industry with cutting-edge software development. AI OS represents the company’s next achievement as the foundation powering the Josh App, Josh.ai microphones, Josh.ai control processors, web-based Josh Portal, and its two new interfaces; Josh Touchscreen and the Josh-Ready AVA Cinema Remote. Thanks to significant advancements in generative AI over the last year, Josh.ai has updated systems with an array of new gender, tone, and accent-oriented options. In doing so, delivering a new preferred default voice along with enabling more diverse and personalized interactions in every home.
- Intelligent Security Solutions: As a complete smart home operating system, AI OS fulfills a critical need for property owners with the launch of Josh.ai’s security and alarm system capabilities. Like every Josh.ai integration, Elk and additional supported security providers are automatically discovered on the local network. Once authorized, Josh.ai’s touch, text, and voice interfaces consolidate control while enabling users to customize automations and push notifications leveraging their security devices. Customers will be able to arm, disarm, and set their systems to arm-away mode. The state of the alarm panel can also send users a push notification, trigger a scene, or be activated by a scene such as “Goodnight” given by voice, the app, a button press, or a conditional automation. Josh.ai will also enhance its security features by introducing a new capability called Josh Vision that takes surveillance insight to the next level. Homeowners can ask, “Hey Josh, what is happening at the front door?” Josh.ai will then analyze the camera feed and intelligently describe what it sees to make home monitoring easier and more interactive. Additionally, AI OS will enhance the quality and refresh rate of live camera streaming in the Josh App and on Josh Touchscreen. Users can view real-time streams and take action from anywhere in the world.
- Advanced AV Distribution: AI OS enhances entertainment experiences throughout the home with its AV distribution advancements. Featuring the connection and synchronization of media sources across different output zones in the home, users can transfer content that is currently playing from one area to another. Conveniently managed through the Josh App’s updated video controller or with a simple voice command, this updated functionality ensures a cohesive and flexible entertainment experience everywhere a client would like to leverage their multi-zone environment.
- DoorLink: In a forthcoming update, AI OS will introduce two-way communication between the Josh App and Josh Touchscreen with integrated door stations. This intercom functionality enables clients to speak with their visitors from anywhere in the home, or in the world when they are on-the-go, to conveniently manage entry without compromising security. Homeowners can communicate with guests, verify identities, and grant access to their property with a few voice commands, or taps in the Josh App or Josh Touchscreen.
- JoshGPT 2.0: Building on the success of the initial launch of JoshGPT, empowering users with access to trillions of data points for intelligent assistance, JoshGPT 2.0 incorporates the latest advancements in large language model (LLM) technology. The update improves query accuracy while decreasing response time, optimizing answers to everyday questions and complex calculations. AI OS adds JoshGPT 2.0 access to Josh Touchscreen and the Josh-Ready AVA Cinema Remote, as well as automatically updating across all Josh.ai’s text and voice interfaces.
- Smart Support Tools: In an effort to provide dealers and clients with best-in-class supportability, AI OS includes tools for streamlined system oversight and troubleshooting. Thanks to features like direct-to-dealer outreach in the Josh App as well as the optimization of remotely accessible diagnostic tools in the web-based Josh Portal, customers and dealers can efficiently communicate to ensure everything is running smoothly.
- Advanced Lighting Effects: AI OS introduces customizable lighting effects that elevate and transform the ambiance in every room. - Pool & Spa Automation: In a forthcoming update, AI OS will include the launch of pool and spa support to expand Josh.ai’s home intelligence to exterior living spaces. Josh Touchscreen
Josh Touchscreen provides dealers with a room-specific control interface and whole-home accessibility that simplifies installations while boosting value for their business. As with all Josh.ai products, Josh Touchscreen is exclusively available through authorized dealers, provides generous resale margin, and may be added á la carte to every room of the home. By integrating a wall-mountable graphical interface into its hardware lineup, Josh.ai is providing clients with the best of traditional control along with industry-leading innovation and AI capabilities.
Highlighted by a specially designed room-level view that offers simplicity and convenience, users are empowered to personalize each room’s controls and appearance to suit their preferences. Whole-home access to all connected devices, scenes, and custom dashboards is also made easy. Naturally, Josh.ai’s voice control is accessible via a tap-to-talk built-in voice button. Josh Touchscreen understands conversational commands and knows the floor plan of a client’s property for location aware interactions. Intelligent assistance with JoshGPT is also available with access to trillions of data points across limitless use-cases. Available in Polished Black and Ceramic White, the 8-inch high-performance IPS glass screen complements a modern home’s decor with an always-available control interface. The edge-to-edge glass display features capacitive touch and a quad-symmetric core processor, as well as proximity and light sensors. Josh Touschreen’s sensors have the power to simplify smart home interactions by automatically activating scenes and sending push notifications.
Installers have the flexibility to mount Josh Touchscreen in a North American single or double-gang cutout, flush mount with forthcoming partner solutions, or position it on a tabletop for seamless accessibility. Josh Touchscreen is hardwired and powered over ethernet for stability, with Wi-Fi compatibility for tabletop deployments. From a supportability perspective, Josh Touchscreen can be accessed in the web-based Josh Portal for technicians to view diagnostic tools, troubleshooting logs, and device settings from anywhere via a secure web connection.
Josh Edge
Presented exclusively to authorized dealers following the Josh.ai Winter Launch Event, Josh Edge provides an intuitive handheld control in the home. Based on years of partner input, dealers were given the chance to back the project if they wanted Josh.ai to build it. In the first hour, Josh.ai reached its crowdfunding goal to move forward and build Josh Edge. At CEDIA Expo, backers and all attendees will have the opportunity to see Josh Edge on display for the first time as Josh.ai continues making strides to begin shipping by the end of 2024.
Machined out of aluminum for durability, Josh Edge combines elegant and ergonomic design into a complementary hard-button companion. The remote has an expected battery life of three months on a single charge, achieves a price point dealers are excited about, and includes key features with its button mapping and side volume control. Central to the product is a tap-to-talk near-field voice control button. Josh Edge is location and contextually aware. In addition, JoshGPT provides immediate answers to any question a client might ask. Below the voice button, the bottom half of Josh Edge is dedicated to media control with a multi-directional navigation pad and AV buttons for a universal remote control experience with Apple TV, Roku, Kaleidescape, Dish, Xfinity, and more.
At the top of Josh Edge is perhaps the most user-friendly feature. A set of six custom buttons that are entirely swappable based on a client’s needs for any particular area. The upper buttons offer the ability to control specific devices in the room like lights, shades, fans, and music. The buttons can also be used to activate custom scenes like, Movie Time and Room Off, or can be configured to execute more video commands. For example, to toggle TV subtitles or provide shortcuts to favorite channels and services like Dish. This limitless ability to customize Josh Edge is important as it enables dealers to configure the product for a particular room, while providing simple buttons to control whatever is most important for their client. The buttons are designed to be backlit, which was another feature built with dealer feedback in mind.
