ProSource Expands In-Person Training Schedule for New Installers

ProSource Academy to double up and offer six training sessions in 2022.

ProSource has expanded the schedule for ProSource Academy, an in-person basic training for new installers. Held in Richmond, VA, the ProSource Academy is free for members to attend and targets new industry technicians in their first 30-60 days of employment. Each of the three 2021 trainings reached full capacity attendance, and the 2022 calendar calls for six sessions scheduled for January through September. As part of an overall ProSource brand refresh, a new logo for the Academy debuts this month.

“Launched in September 2021, ProSource Academy directly confronts the pain point of finding qualified technicians to fill the gap experienced by many of our members when growing their businesses,” says Dave Workman, president and CEO of ProSource. “We have trained 36 new technicians YTD who return to their companies field-ready and armed with the tools they need to be a productive member of the team.”

New technicians gain hands-on experiences in a safe learning environment with coursework organized around classroom learning, a workbench practice zone, and practical assessments. New recruits continue their career path by taking additional classes within ProSource University and subsequent visits to the Academy, with more advanced coursework offered down the road.

The ProSource Academy program communicates back to the hiring manager not only successful completion of the course, but also a holistic score card that captures performance in other key areas like soft skills, demeanor, and core values fit.

Course content includes:

  • Construction Basics (Residential and Commercial)
  • Safety
  • Tools
  • Cable Types, Wiring Tools, and Terminations
  • Design Documents
  • Rough-In Basic Procedures
  • Trim-Out Basic Procedures
  • Retrofit Basic Procedures
  • Jobsite Etiquette and Daily Procedures

“ProSource Academy is an authorized CEDIA Education Partner and technicians that complete the ProSource Academy Level 1 training are eligible to sit for their CEDIA CIT Exam (the exam costs $150 for CEDIA members and $200 for CEDIA non-members),” says Sherry Dantonio, ProSource senior director of education and member recruitment. “The Academy is extremely popular with our membership and is a vital in-person complement to ProSource University, providing a complete career path for new technicians.”
